Zombie Cell Detox
Clear Out Your Aged and Decaying Cells
Senescence (growing old) it turns out, is a process, not just wear and tear as was once taught.
Senescent cells are a great biological liability: they won’t function properly and won’t die as they should. These “zombie cells” as they have been called just poison the body’s health systems, cause inflammation and biological malfunction.
They are toxic and VERY BAD NEWS.
Only recently have we come to realize the full aging impact of these half dead and decaying cells.
The good news? It turns out that if you eliminate senescent cells, everything in the body rejoices in more vitality and longevity itself. It’s one the most powerful anti-aging tools we have… and it WORKS!
Senolytics
From the word senile, we get the term senescence (aging) and another concept: senolytics. Lysis means literally dissolving, so senolytics means dissolving away aging factors.
And it’s surprisingly easy to do. One of the chief agents for destroying senescent cells is a substance called Fisetin, derived from Rhus Succedanea, the wax tree, (formerly Toxicodendron succedaneum) has been used in indigenous medicine for quite a long time in the treatment of asthma, cough, and colicky pains and has anti-tumor, anti-oxidation, anti-inflammatory, and gastritis suppression effects. It’s even a hangover cure! Bioactive constituents from R. succedanea have been isolated and characterized. These include flavonoids, of which Fisetin is the thoroughbred horse, destroying dysfunctional senescent cells and extending lifespan by approximately 10% in animal studies.
But as a flavonoid, there is a lot more to fisetin than just life extension.
In line with its role as a flavonol, fisetin has powerful anti-oxidant and therefore anti-inflammatory effects. Fisetin can reduce markers of inflammation, benefitting joints and other tissues.
It is an anti-viral and a 2020 study declared that “in the current pandemic situation of SARS-CoV-2, its anti-viral properties are greatly significant.” [J Biomol Struct Dyn. 2020 : 1–13]
Fisetin treatment can also reduce cellular aging in kidney, liver, fat, and spleen, and reduce levels of circulating senescence derivatives.
Fisetin even has a role against cancer, according to a Science Direct review. It helped induce cellular apoptosis (programmed cell death), alone and in conjunction with a chemo-agent: cisplatin and was thus able to destroy deadly lung cancer cells.

Heart Protection
Fisetin not only has the ability to extend lifespan in preclinical models, it may also reduce the risk for many of the most common chronic illnesses, including cardiac health.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S. Most common forms of heart disease are due to inadequate flow of blood, oxygen, and nutrients to the heart, which can lead to a heart attack.
Over the last two years, studies have demonstrated that fisetin can protect the heart from injury. Even after heart attack models, heart cells fare better when fisetin is present.
Quercetin
There’s another kid on the senolytics block: quercetin.
Fisetin on its own, it turns out, has limited absorption capability. That means it needs coupling with something else, to make it more bioavailable.
That “something” is quercetin, a powerful antioxidant in its own right! In fact, taken at the right dose, quercetin is an all-round good guy, with powerful anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-Alzheimer’s properties. It can also help reduce blood pressure and mitigate allergic reactions.
Quercetin, named after the Latin word for oak (quercus), is a plant flavonol from the flavonoid group of polyphenols.
Test tube studies show that quercetin prevents damage from LDL cholesterol, and population studies show that people who eat diets high in flavonoids have lower cholesterol. One study found that people who took quercetin and an alcohol-free red wine extract (which contains quercetin) had less damage from LDL cholesterol.
Another study found that quercetin reduced LDL concentrations in overweight subjects who were at high risk of heart disease.
Animal and test tube studies suggest that flavonoids have anti-cancer properties. According to the Mt Sinai website, orthodox medicine even accepts that quercetin may have some anti-cancer properties! Quercetin and other flavonoids have been shown in these studies to inhibit the growth of cancer cells from breast, colon, prostate, ovarian, endometrial, and lung tumors. One study even suggests that quercetin is more effective than resveratrol in terms of inhibiting tumor growth.
Autophagy
But look! Quercetin ALSO has marked autophagy properties, which is exactly the effect we are looking for with fisetin. AND it has been shown to induce apoptotic (cell suicide death) destruction of aged cells. So this two (fisetin and quercetin) make an awesome anti-aging duo!
