Toxic Bosses Can Kill

Keith Scott-Mumby

One of the classic studies of emotional factors in aging is called the “Whitehall Study”. Over the years 1967- 1977 it examined the lives of civil service employees in London, UK (Whitehall is the location of the seat of government, Parliament, etc.). It showed that those lower down the pecking order did not live as long, […] The post Toxic Bosses Can Kill appeared first on Dr. Keith Scott-Mumby.

The Dark Side Of The Love Hormone Oxytocin

Keith Scott-Mumby

Oxytocin is enjoying a huge vogue. It’s been christened the “love hormone” and the “cuddle chemical”, due to its supposed effect in increasing human bonding. One whiff of it can make a person more trusting, empathetic, generous and cooperative. Sold on the Internet in a formulation called “Liquid Trust,” the peptide hormone is marketed as a romance enhancer. Australian therapists are trying it alongside counseling for couples with ailing marriages. And police and military forces reportedly are interested in its potential to elicit cooperation from crime suspects or enemy agents. With around 40 clinical trials under way using oxytocin to treat conditions such as autism and schizophrenia, there is a lot of optimism that the hormone could help people by boosting trust and reducing social anxiety. But it’s emerging that this wonder hormone is not nearly as simple and friendly as people have tried to portray it.

Did Christopher Reeve Just Die Too Soon?

Keith Scott-Mumby

Everyone knows the tragic story of Christopher Reeve and his brave journey through quadriplegia, due to a neck injury while horse riding. He became a model hero; a true “super man”. The world knows too of his patient endurance with the stoic certainty that a cure for his condition would be found. He put his faith in stem cells. It still hasn’t happened. Reeve died in October 2004. The final answer could now have been found and could be far simpler than complex and dangerous stem cell therapy. It starts with our good friend, the laboratory rat. This may offend a few people, so if you are of sensitive disposition, please hit your BACK key! (it’s a joke: I expect you instead to honor the animals in this series of experiments and realize we may live far better, through their small tragedies). The fact is that rats have been used to pioneer a revolutionary nerve healing technique that could change everything about nerve trauma and may even, conceivably, lead to the repair of spinal cord injuries. That would be something!

Sobering Facts Debunk The Raw Milk Myth

Keith Scott-Mumby

Regular readers will know that I do not condone the raw milk hysteria. To read the holistic press, you’d think it was the best food ever invented. In fact I’m on record with the BBC (1986) as saying that if there was one food on Earth I would ban it would be milk. I would make hundreds of millions of people well within a week. I’d be famous! Seriously, though, milk is DEADLY. I don’t care what Joe Mercola says. And please don’t write and tell me YOU can drink raw milk and you are fine. That’s like saying you live in a pit of snakes and you haven’t been bitten so far! New and sobering statistics show that raw, or unpasteurized, milk causes 150 times more dairy product-related disease outbreaks than pasteurized milk. And states where the sale of raw milk is legal have twice as many outbreaks as states where it is illegal, according to a new U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study (CDC). The 13-year review looked at more than 120 dairy product-related outbreaks that occurred between 1993 and 2006. The outbreaks caused more than 4,400 illnesses, 239 hospitalizations and three deaths. Raw milk products — including cheese and yogurt — caused 73 of the outbreaks (60 percent) and most of the 239 hospitalizations. Unless milk is pasteurized — heated to kill harmful bacteria — bacteria can accumulate in collected milk, multiply and cause illness, the researchers said. The study found that 13 percent of patients in what they called the “raw milk outbreaks” were hospitalized, compared with 1 percent of those made ill by pasteurized milk products. That’s 1300% more dangerous, if you want to play at silly statistics.

Doctors Prescribe Nicotine For Babies (True)

Keith Scott-Mumby

Why on Earth would an intelligent doctor put a pregnant woman on nicotine patches? (OK, not intelligent doctors). Have they not heard that nicotine is bad for babies? Why tell the mother not to smoke and then some dumb doctor provides the toxic nicotine anyway! Oh, I forgot to mention: the study showed that mother’s nicotine patch causes colic in infants. Well, of course! Mother smoking cigarettes does it, so of course the patch does it. Duh! Colic is not as trivial as you might think—especially if you are a baby! Colicky babies cry inconsolably for several hours a day (at least three hours a day, more than three days a week, for more than three weeks), and researchers in the Netherlands found that exposure to nicotine — either from cigarettes or nicotine replacement therapy — was associated with a significantly increased risk of colic, ranging from 30 to 60 percent. That’s a BIG effect.

Newborn Baby Drug Addicts

Keith Scott-Mumby

It’s a horrifying comment on our drug-sodden society that newborn babies are coming into the world addicted. In fact they get withdrawal symptoms, as soon as mother’s blood supply from the placenta is shut off. No, I’m not just talking irresponsible, criminal mothers, who take recreation drugs while pregnant (lots of that) but I’m also […]
