New Cures For Alzheimer’s

Keith Scott-Mumby

The current medical thinking is that Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a deficit in neurotransmitter function; specifically acetylcholine. Doctors have become obsessed with the characteristic amyloid plaques which are found in Alzheimer’s brains. But there is no evidence whatever that these plaques are the cause of Alzheimer’s. In fact scientific studies say the opposite. Drugs designed to reduce the presence of plaques have no significant effect on the progression of AD. Moreover drugs designed to rectify the acetylcholine deficiency also fail miserably, even though they are pushed with phoney science and TV advertizing hype (Aricept etc. are worthless). All this is despite the fact that there is a better model for AD. It’s better because rectifying it results in dramatic improvement. Alzheimer’s patients suffer from a metabolic disruption that inhibits the brain’s ability to use glucose to power neurons.

Magnesium Cools Inflammation

Keith Scott-Mumby

Magnesium is enormously powerful at cooling the “fire” of inflammation. Yet it is the commonest mineral deficiency in our diets. The majority of people are not coming anywhere near the RDA minimum of 350 mg. Researchers from the Medical University of South Carolina measured blood inflammation levels–using the C-reactive protein (CRP) test–in 3,800 men and […]

Back Pain Is A Common Agony

Keith Scott-Mumby

I know that back pain is probably the number one reason people visit the doctor. Probably something to do with our amazing upright posture. I know magnesium injections help but this isn’t available for the average person. Chiropracters can sometimes help but they are not all equally competent and I have seen them, first hand, make things WORSE. But a book which recently arrived on my desk has lots of good answers for this age-old problem. I mailed you about it a few days ago but promised the publishers I would mention it in Letter From Serendipity too. It’s by a guy called Jesse Cannone and called The 7-Day Back Pain Cure. Cannone has gone deeply into this and as a result has frequently appeared as an expert on TV shows, radio and been featured in numerous prestige magazines. He publishes an eZine called Less Pain, More Life, so you need to listen to this guy.

End Of The Raw Milk Story

Keith Scott-Mumby

Once in a while, one of my pieces creates a storm. I had no idea that so many of my readers still enjoyed fairy stories! I’m referring to the idea that raw milk is a healthy, natural and safe food. As I said: it is not. Raw milk kills. I produced a strong scientific study to make a point. People are so wedded to their beliefs, they don’t want mere facts. This study was denounced as a fraud. I was accused of “misinterpreting” it—by a good colleague, incidentally. But my statements are based also on clinical experience, not just science papers. I went through med school in an era when people DIED of raw milk infections or were crippled for life: TB, brucellosis, Campylobacter (can lead to Guillaine-Barre)… Apparently, now raw milk is on the Internet, TB and brucellosis have vanished into history! It’s all been magicked away! (I don’t think so) The number of people who wrote to tell me they drink raw milk and they are just fine, is quite funny. It’s like saying I live in a box with hundreds of deadly cobras and I haven’t been bitten… yet!

Mushrooms Quench Inflammation

Keith Scott-Mumby

Here’s a little-known secret for reducing inflammation: mushrooms and fungi. This kingdom of living organisms helps in many ways and will intelligently modulate the immune system, helping boost it when needed and helping tone it down when the immune response (inflammation) is excessive. We call this a biological response modifier (BRM) or adaptogen. Fungi contain […]

The Practice Of Medicine Steps Backwards Over A Century

Keith Scott-Mumby

In 1895 Sigmund Freud and Josef Breuer published one of medicine’s greatest milestone books; it’s called “Studies In Hysteria”. In it they showed that disease can be induced by mental states and by reversing these mental patterns, cures took place. It was a very shocking book because it stated plainly that men could suffer from hysterical illness and, as everyone knows, hysteria is really only caused by a floating uterus (that’s what hysteria means; that’s why it sounds like hysterectomy). OK, I’m  joking—but they weren’t back then; that’s what Freud and Breuer faced at the time. Eventually Breuer publicly disavowed his colleague. But Freud stayed the ground and became one of the greatest and most compassionate figures in medicine (even if a lot of his stuff is just plain wrong). He’s a household name; Breuer is virtually forgotten. As a result of the historic Freud/Breuer collaboration, the concept of psychosomatic disease was born. It exists, unquestionably. But it’s also a great curse. Because when doctors are incompetent and can’t diagnose or treat successfully, they blame the patient and say “It’s all in your head”.

Toxic Bosses Can Kill

Keith Scott-Mumby

One of the classic studies of emotional factors in aging is called the “Whitehall Study”. Over the years 1967- 1977 it examined the lives of civil service employees in London, UK (Whitehall is the location of the seat of government, Parliament, etc.). It showed that those lower down the pecking order did not live as long, […]
