How Beauty Is An Important Part Of Health

Keith Scott-Mumby

Years ago I planned a book about the beneficial, even therapeutic, effects of beauty in our surroundings. I still haven’t written it, because there has been little or no study of this phenomenon. I remain convinced but it must only be a personal opinion. George Santayana, the modern Spanish philosopher wrote convincingly about the same thing (The Sense of Beauty, 1896). One thing came to me very vividly, early in my medical career: that a woman’s beauty is a state of mind, not physical form. I say that because one day, long ago, I was in theatre scrubbed for an elective on a very beautiful woman. She was gorgeous! Yet, as soon as the anesthetic hit, she transformed into a sack of jelly. Her face slumped and went plop! All the beauty was gone. I realized in that instant that beauty is how a woman holds herself. If she thinks she is beautiful, or should be, then her musculature responds and holds her face and bearing in a certain assured way. But take away the conscious aspect of beauty, I realized, and it vanishes. I even wrote a powerful poem about this. But it was in a briefcase that was stolen and I cannot, for the life of me, re-create that poem. Hah well!

Swine Flu: What Happened To The Pandemic?

Keith Scott-Mumby

I have said countless times not to listen to the whipped up hysteria and fear of the media. US television is the worst I’ve seen in my travels around the world for lies and exaggeration. They WANT a pandemic and are thirsting for anything which creates anxiety. The truth is that the H1N1 swine flu […]

Corruption in cancer research

Keith Scott-Mumby

Conflict of interest blocks out real scientific integrity in cancer research A study to be published June 15th 2009 in the journal Cancer has highlighted what is essentially corruption in the science of cancer research. It’s called “conflict of interest”: but you and I would call it corruption, bribery or malicious threats. Not nice words for a not nice phenomenon, which I’ve known about for years. Well, at least the industry is beginning to talk about it.

Beware Those Scales. They lie!

Keith Scott-Mumby

A recent trip to a doctor to have my ears syringed resulted in a routine weighing on a balance scale—you know, the kind where you are balanced against weights slid along a beam. These are accurate to within 0.5% or less. This is very different to the spring loaded bathroom scales. As metal springs age they go stiffer. What does that mean? They stretch more reluctantly and won’t let the needle on the dial get right around to your true weight. In other words they lie and tell you that you are lighter than you really are.

Responses on swine flu

Keith Scott-Mumby

The response to my first swine flu blog was been tremendous. Thank you all for the comments and emails. There is a second blog, which I wrote Tuesday but have not announced yet. This is an entirely new aspect of the story. You can read that here: https://alternative-doctor.com/alternat/swine-flu-part-2-knee-deep-in-excrement/ There were some critical comments, which I allowed of course. It seems my site had a visit from somebody at CDC (Center for Disease Control). I presume this lady was put on detail to surf the Net and look for authority sites to trash. She said the following about me: “Unfortunately, Dr. Keith appears to know frightening little about the flu virus, epidemiology, or science. It is irresponsible to spread these ridiculous accusations and misinformation. I encourage readers to learn about the real science behind what is happening and not blindly follow this unfounded speculation.” Unfortunately, she herself does not remark of what exactly she thinks I said wrong. So it’s basically just character assassination, not a real comment, as such.

Biologically-grown batteries? Ya kidding?

Keith Scott-Mumby

Are all viruses bad? Perhaps not. Viruses are capable of making environment-friendly batteries, at least as good as commercial batteries! Seems incredible.
