Pick’s disease and Shy Drager

Keith Scott-Mumby

One of my subscribers, Joanne, asked me about Pick’s disease. She has a friend with this condition. Coconut oil is helping, she says, but they are both desperate for information and solutions on this dismal condition. Pick’s disease, is a rare neurodegenerative disease that causes progressive destruction of nerve cells in the brain. Symptoms include […] The post Pick’s disease and Shy Drager appeared first on Dr. Keith Scott-Mumby.

Google Disease?

Keith Scott-Mumby

From time to time I get told off by one or more subscribers, for getting involved in things I shouldn’t! It rather misses the point: that doctors should get involved with anything that isn’t as it should be. Holism means TOTAL health, don’t you know. One day I got to thinking about “Internet health”. I made that up and, no, I don’t mean health ON the Internet; I mean health OF the Internet. I was all fired up to do a piece on Google (which is a nasty, contagious disease). New Scientist recently ran a piece, pointing out the dangers of downloading images via Google. Apparently, that’s the latest loophole the hackers are exploiting, to get malware onto your computer. It’s a war out there and what you see on Yahoo and Google searches is the top 5% of a seething cesspit of crime, fraud, filth and malware. You wouldn’t want to see the half of it. The search engine spiders do their best to keep it out of view. But talk about pathogens! These evil hacker bugs and human parasites out there are trying to infect your healthy life.

Stay Sharp Mentally

Keith Scott-Mumby

Stay Sharp! Could it be true that smart people live longer? All the more reason to get engaged with my “New Thought Horizons” material. Apparently, it’s true, at least in reverse: even mild cognitive impairment has a strong independent impact on life expectancy, as bad as other chronic diseases, such as diabetes. In a new study report published in the September 6, 2011, issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine, just shy of 4000 older adults were followed and the degree of cognitive impairment at baseline was clearly associated with an increasing risk for death. You don’t want to go there, so eat your greens, take lots of omega-3s, alpha lipoic acid and all that other good brain stuff I share with you in my “How to Live Beyond 100 Years” book. Whatever life has in store for us, we Boomers want to be sure we’ll reach old age in good shape and with all our faculties intact. People can ride horses and enjoy sex after the age of 100 years, for goodness sake! Don’t settle for less…

The 10 Main Reasons Men Don’t Want Sex and Women Have To Fight To Get It

Keith Scott-Mumby

This theme was circulated in 2006 by WebMD but without the women’s interest. Yet it seems to me that a man not wanting sex is the woman’s problem, as much as the man’s (or more so). Maybe he’s OK with no passion but that’s frustrating to the partner. My reading demographic is mainly middle age and Boomers, so this should be a topic of interest to many readers. I have chosen the ones I consider to be the most important 10; not the same as WebMD’s selection. The first question to ask is: is there really a problem at all? It’s widely held that men are all hungry studs and will want sex at every available opportunity. That really isn’t true for most men. Once the wild passion of new romance wears off, a more realistic agenda for regular sex may be relatively infrequently. Also, the woman may be negative about sex. If she gives out the wrong signals, saying she is not interested, a sensitive man may respond by quenching his own desires. It’s still a problem. But I always say, you have to get the real cause to be able to make any successful change. I recall a patient complaining her husband wasn’t up for much sex; I told her to bring him along and I’d fix him. So I did! He jumped her bones and she came back to me, very distressed. “It was disgusting,” she complained, “I’d rather go shopping than have sex at my age.” Poor guy, I thought!

Flu Vaccines A Dangerous Waste Of Time (proven)

Keith Scott-Mumby

At least in children. Not only did it not prevent flu, it resulted in TRIPLE the risk of ending up in hospital. That’s DANGEROUS in my book (hospitals are the last place you want to be). So they’ve withdrawn flu vaccine recommendations for kids, right? Not likely: there’s money in them thar hills! You think […]

Why Lyme Disease Is So Variable

Keith Scott-Mumby

You know I write IN DEPTH about individual biochemical variation, due to many complex gene variable factors. We call these minor variations single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs or “snips” for short). It’s never enough to grow two heads but it could mean the difference between being able to tolerate tomatoes or not! Individual genetic variations account for […]

Too Much TV Kills

Keith Scott-Mumby

I used to love those American things, where somebody calculated that every passionate kiss took 7 minutes off your life! Well, apparently, every hour of TV will knock 22 minutes off your life! Mind you, American TV is so dire it takes away the will to live! Ha ha… But this research is from Australia. […]
