Sub-Lingual Allergy Desensitization SLIT

Keith Scott-Mumby

Another Major “I Told ‘Em.” Actually, it’s not even mine. But I was one of the champion voices, first to demonstrate the method live on public television (BBC), and someone criticized openly by critical colleagues and called a fraud. So I certainly was telling ‘em! We pioneers had learned to use sub-lingual anti-allergen therapy, using safe, low doses by mouth. It was highly effective. The late Joseph Miller MD was probably its greatest proponent and the testing and neutralization technique became known as Miller’s method. To allergists and immunologists, the fact that we had a simple, safe method of controlling allergies was very bad news—it threatened their revenues and it is very dangerous to tread on the money hose in medicine! We came in for a lot of flack and accusations of fraud. Yet people died of their allergy shots; a series of doses of their allergens, in steadily increasing doses. In contrast, nobody, to my knowledge, has ever died or come to harm using the sublingual neutralization method. I must have tested over a hundred thousand substances and patients self-administered over a million doses in my care, with no ill effect. Well, all that was almost 40 years ago. Now a modern paper (there have been hundreds, incidentally) has shown yet again that we were right.

Testimonials We Love

Keith Scott-Mumby

Dear Dr. Keith, I recently purchased and downloaded your book “Diet Wise”. I read and followed your instructions carefully. And I wish to say to you how supremely grateful I am to you for writing this book. I have been suffering for 5-6 years from debilitating exhaustion that comes and goes. I have been overweight about 10kgs for the past 5 years and have been unable to shift the weight due largely in part because of my inability to exercise. There have been times where I have been unable to get out of bed for days on end with debilitating exhaustion for weeks on end! I have been unable to hold down any regular work due to this condition that doctors and naturopaths have been unable to explain. I myself have begun studying nutrition formerly and have spent the past 3-4 years researching everything I can about health. I’ve been on juice fasts, and macrobiotic diets, I’ve been vegetarian, vegan and have tried every diet in between. I’ve taken every miracle potion and supplement the alternative world has to offer, Nothing has worked long term. I have only really begun with searching out what my body can tolerate and what it can’t and I’m sure I have more to learn. I wanted to share with you two important food intolerance’s I have now learned by using the methods you’ve set out in your book. Firstly, every time I eat Thai green curry I get excruciating pain in my stomach about where my gallbladder is. I have had the same sensation at other times and not known why. I had thought perhaps it was MSG but have discovered that peanuts cause this pain as does pistachios.

Two Thirds of People Who Drown Are Strong Swimmers

Keith Scott-Mumby

OK, more summer stuff… Check Out The Appalling Drowning Statistics I didn’t choose this topic because it’s pleasant but because it’s informative (you know me!) I give this knowledge most years, in the hope it will one day save a life. Accidental death is a relatively rare form of demise, though proportionately higher in younger people, since they don’t get the disease spectrum of older folks. Drowning is one of the commoner accidental deaths, after road traffic accidents, of course. Did you know that in cold Northern waters (these figures are from the UK and would apply to the north Atlantic and north Pacific, but not necessarily the Caribbean) 55% of drownings occur within 10 feet of safety? That’s surprising. Also 66% of victims are good swimmers. How can that be? It tells us that people in the water can get into difficulty within seconds and rapidly become helpless. Typically, when a victim realizes that they cannot keep their head above water, they tend to panic. This leads to the classic “surface struggle”, where they flounder and thrash in the upright posture, out of control.

Do Higher Sunscreen Protection Factors Do Any Good?

Keith Scott-Mumby

Do Higher Sunscreen Protection Factors Do Any Good? Of course not; it’s all marketing hype; like phoney and meaningless ORAC values, which propel the network marketing industry. The truth is, you don’t need anything above factor 15. That blocks around 94% of the suns rays. Why one Earth would you need more? It’s all a hoax that “more is better”. The only way to block 100% sun is to stay indoors and hide in the dark. But I as I just told you in the other sunscreen article, you NEED sun to protect against cancers. Hiding from the sun protects you from skin cancer is another of those stupid persistent and downright deadly myths that just goes on forever; not because it’s true but because doctors are too stupid to too timid to stand up to it. Creating and fuelling the fear is what the personal health care industry thrives on. Yes, skin cancers are on the rise. But is the sun getting bigger? Hotter? Nearer?

Sunscreen Lies And More Lies

Keith Scott-Mumby

Summer is a’coming in, so goes the old British medieval folk song. And with summer starts the lies of the personal skin care product industry. The fundamental lie is that we need sunscreen at all. Just stay out of the sun until you can tolerate it. Otherwise, we need sun. Contrary to everything you have heard, sunshine protects against melanoma. Yes, people get skin cancers in the sun—but only people with pasty pale skin, who hide indoors all year and then go crazy on their vacation. Intense and unaccustomed radiation is what might cause skin cancers. The darkened skin of a tan is your best protection from penetrating rays, not because the tan helps but because being in the sun certainly DOES. I repeat: suns rays protect against cancer. It’s science that goes back decades and is totally ignored by the medical profession and the skin care industry. They are both screwed up, believing in hearsay and fairy stories.

They Are Calling It The New AIDS Of America

Keith Scott-Mumby

Those of you wise enough to buy my Parasites Handbook (a must-have in this day and age of the “world village”) will know I wrote about a new menace heading north in the Americas. It’s carried by so-called “kissing bugs”, which bite you round the mouth while you sleep and infects you with the Chagas disease creepy parasite: the American trypanosome. More than 8 million people have been infected by potentially fatal Chagas disease, most of them in Latin and Central America. But more than 300,000 live in the United States. An editorial, published the Public Library of Science’s Neglected Tropical Diseases journal, said the spread of the disease is reminiscent of the early years of HIV.

How a Sumo wrestler can teach you to be thin…

Keith Scott-Mumby

Here’s a guest blog by excellent writer Jonny Bowden. He’s not a Doc – but he probably should have been!! Have you ever wondered how your body actually burns fat? Years ago a popular health magazine decided to try to answer that same question with a novel approach. They looked at how people actually gain weight, reasoning that if we knew all the “tricks” to gaining weight, we could learn what not to do if we wanted to stay lean. So they followed around a bunch of Sumo wrestlers whose job requires them to maintain enormous stores of body fat. Whatever it is they were doing, that’s exactly what we shouldn’t do. Now Sumo wrestlers gain weight for a number of reasons, and genetics certainly plays a role, but what they did eating-wise is the thing we want to pay attention to, because it’s ultimately going to teach us something about how to burn fat. Here’s what the Sumo guys did … They worked out a bit. They lazed around. They worked out some more. They took a nap. And then, at the end of the day, they ate their one meal, a veritable Roman orgy of food that would make the buffet at the Bellagio in Vegas seem skimpy. Shortly after this multi-thousand calorie feast they’d go to bed for the night. Okay, folks, what can we learn from this?
